Gentle Chiropractic (No “twisting” or “popping”):
Dr. Carpenter utilizes both traditional adjusting techniques for “Structural Correction Chiropractic” as well as a state of the art instrument that allows no “twisting” or “popping” of the neck or spine.
Structural Correction Chiropractic:
The Central Nervous System controls and coordinates all of the bodies systems and functions. Structural Correction Chiropractic combines the retraining of muscles that support the joints and spine as well as restoring normal curvatures to improve the integrity of the nervous system so that your body performs and functions the way it should.
Intersegmental Traction/Massage has the patient lie face up on a system of rollers that gently stretches and massages the muscles of the back. Intersegmental Traction/Massage is performed along with a spinal adjustment to relax the spine making the adjustment more effective.
X-rays are taken for several reasons:
- To determine the condition of the spinal discs (the cushions between the vertebrae)
- To determine the Phases of Degeneration
- To locate potential problem areas, damage, and spinal subluxations (misalignments)
- To rule out any pathologies (life threatening diseases)
- To indicate a contraindication to acceptance of care
Pregnancy / Prenatal Care:
Chiropractic care during pregnancy has been shown to be safe for both mother and baby. The mother’s spine and pelvis undergo many changes and adaptations to compensate for the growing baby. Physically the mother’s pelvis tries to accommodate an increase in load on the front of the body. Her pelvic opening may be compromised, resulting in a less than optimum passageway for the baby. This complication may likely cause an imbalance to her pelvic muscles and ligaments leading to intrauterine constraint of the baby.
Chiropractic pregnancy care helps prepare the pelvis for an easier pregnancy and birth by creating a state of balance in the bony structures, muscles, and ligaments of the pelvic region. This also benefits the baby by allowing room to move into the best possible birth position for the least amount of stress on mother and baby. Chiropractic adjustments also directly affect the central nervous system which controls and coordinates all of the mother’s systems and functions.
Pediatric Chiropractic Care:
A growing number of parents are adding pediatric chiropractic care as an integrative component of their children’s health care regime. As families are becoming more proactive and preventative about their health care, children are benefiting from the number one form of alternative medicine in North America. A recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study indicated that nearly 3 percent of children in the United States were treated with chiropractic in 2007, making it the most common form of complementary or alternative care used by children.
It is very important that a child have both a pediatrician and a pediatric chiropractor. A pediatric chiropractor is not there to replace the role of the pediatrician. The pediatrician provides medications when necessary and delivers care in times of serious illness and injury. A pediatric chiropractor is there for preventative wellness care and maintenance of the developing child’s structure and nerve system.
Why Should Your Children Be Checked By a Pediatric Chiropractic Physician?
Your child’s body (just like yours) is constantly trying to adapt to its external environment via the nervous system. If your child’s body is unable to adapt and respond, disease processes have a better ability of breaking down the immune system and causing symptoms.
There may be a loss of normal spinal bone position and movement. This in turn causes a disturbance in nervous system function. This loss of normal spinal function and accompanying neurological disturbance, are together, what chiropractic physicians call a “spinal subluxation”. Often this results in the impairment of your child’s nervous system to accurately receive, process, and respond appropriately to changes taking place within the body and in their environment.
Up until recently a child was thought to be healthy when he or she had no symptoms. However, a number of studies now suggest that is not always the case and that health is better defined as the ability of a child’s body to interpret, and then appropriately respond to environmental and lifestyle stresses.
Studies are beginning to show that chiropractic can help children not only with typical back and neck pain complaints, but also with issues as varied as gastric reflux, asthma, chronic ear infections, nursing difficulties, colic, bedwetting, allergies, and “growing pains”. Chiropractic adjustments balance the spine to allow the brain to communicate with the body more effectively for a fully functioning nervous system and a healthier child.
Dr. Carpenter is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician by The American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians. He utilizes a variety of cutting edge techniques to keep elite athletes on the field and to address areas of weakness to their overall function, biomechanics, and performance.
The Graston Technique incorporates a form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables chiropractic physicians to effectively detect and treat scar tissue and restrictions that affect normal function and mobility.
Active Release Technique:
ART is a state of the art soft tissue movement based technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, neck and back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis/golfer’s elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.
Myofascial Release (Trigger Point) Therapy:
Myofascial Release is a hands-on technique that involves applying sustained pressure into myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.
Cold Laser Therapy:
Cold Laser Therapy is a form of medical treatment which involves the use of a low intensity laser to eliminate pain and inflammation while increasing the speed, quality, and strength of tissue repair. Cold Laser Therapy is effective in treating pain for conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, tendonitis, acute & chronic neck and back pain as well as joint & muscle disorders.
Kinesio Taping is the most advanced and recommended therapeutic taping method for comfort & stability providing a functional approach to rehabilitation.
